Already a hit in Europe, the rest of world now has the pleasure of discovering the Detroit duo on their debut release, Triple P. It may have a throwback-soul vibe, but with friends such as Jay Dee and SA-RA contributing, this is a futuristic hybrid of sound. Waajeed is a founding member of Slum Village and Saadiq is nothing short of a master musician, making their works full, warm and satisfying. The improvised, yet calculated beats and rhymes bring a shiver of essential energy that is addictive. Act like you know.

Item: Clothing for Men & Women

Bright colors and cultures fuse to create what the Egyptian and Japanese owners of this clothing line call a “universal vibe.” Indeed, many of their pieces are optimistic and confident, reflecting the way any laid-back cool cat faces the world. Comfortable t-shirts, sweats and hoodies all deliver a street-smart flair, while the knit tank tops and A-line skirts offer a slick twist on all that is fit for a funky fresh diva. And with a slogan like “Be Music,” you’ll be hard-pressed to find an item you can’t relate to.
Item: A Variety of Hats, Scarves & Bags

b-flywears.com is a nifty lil’ site where you can shop for fabulously hand-knitted and crocheted items for man, woman and child. Ms. Buttafly, the woman who personally designs, handcrafts and ships every item at b-flywears is heavily involved in all of her creations. Her various hats, scarves and bags come in a variety of colors. And if you don’t see a color you like, just ask her, she probably can accommodate you.

CHICKS DIG: TRACE Magazine
Item: Every Issue (Published six times a year.)

TRACE, a TRANSCULTURAL™ Styles and Ideas magazine, represents a new expression in culture that features diverse representations of music, fashion, film, art and politics. The glossy pages of this unique magazine unite the beauty in every race, religion, creed and culture. Every year the magazine releases a series of thematic issues focusing on music, fashion and film as well as the popular “Black Girls Rule” issue, which usually sells out within its first week on newsstands. TRACE lives up to its transcultural stance by dedicating an annual issue to covering a single country from an art, music, fashion, film, socio-economic, political and travel perspective. Past countries have included Brazil, South Africa, France and Mexico.

        Item: Assorted Styles and Colors

The canvas Converse All-Star Chuck Taylor is the classic American athletic shoe. First introduced in 1917, the All-Star performance basketball shoe was officially endorsed and renamed in 1918, when Converse founder, Marquis Mills Converse recruited a young basketball player by the name of Chuck Taylor. Today the shoe comes in a variety of colors and canvases and can be seen on the courts, on the streets and even in some workplaces, worn by both men and women.

        Sex glossy, kiss-me-now lips…wet, sticky, dewey…scandalous. MAC’s
lipglass is for the grown and sexy. Just a hint of color, whole gang of
Stepp’n
Michael Orduña is one of the dopest graffiti artists ever. Much
respect to the man right here…if I could I’d put his art on my ceiling
so I could stare at it before I went to sleep all night…and have dreams
splattered in spray paint. This mixed media print is 8" x 10"
and only 20 are available so get up on it.

CHICKS DIG: Poetry
Rush the Page by Tony Medina (Editor), Louis Reyes Rivera
(Editor), Sonia Sanchez
Some of my favorite pieces performed on Russell Simmon’s "Def Poetry
Jam " (HBO and Broadway shows) are contained in this extensive anthology.
The female voice is represented in full effect by wordsmiths Kyesha N.
Brown, asha bandele, and Nancy D. Tolson (her love poem "Bullet
Hole Man" is one to look for). Political, smart, sometimes funny,
sometimes painful, these works not only inspire, but they also refute
the untruth that poems lose their power outside of the performance aspect.
